Environment and Animation and such

  • Good morning you all just giving everyone the update on the project for what I have been working on. So I made trees for our film and made some starter texture for the bark, I also started making some of the common plants since we do not have a lot of plant choices that are available on quixel that are native to China. I have been using Maya but then I made a plant and it turned out like grass, which we can use but it made me decided that I am going to try Z-Brush and Speed tree some more for the other plants rather than maya in hopes of making a better plant, its also about making the Leaf's for the plant and then placing them correctly. I am starting to also put everyone's assets in the scene so its up to date with everything as much as possible. One thing we had to do it turn off some of the foliage when in unreal because the trees have 2 million polys, so they still render on camera fine, it just has some lag when its on the view port. Another thing that we have been approaching is how to get the animation from Maya into unreal using our team member's rig. We have not been successful so far, but we are working on it. One thing I personally has to figure out as the production manager is how to split the animation up, because two people signed up for all the animation when 5 people are interested in doing animation. So, I have the 2 animators working in maya, then an animator who works more on facial expressions, and then 2 animator who tweak the animation once it gets into maya, and some scenes in maya but less than the other two. It was really hard for me honestly because I didn't think it was fair for people to take all the animation and for it to be on two people so just making it clearer that we are an animation team has been frustrating. I think we got a handle on it now, but it was not easy I'll tell you that much. We also selected a composer for our film as well, we all came down to the same two so now its just working with the both of them the best we can as well. I plant on making more plants, start texturing the main house, and help out with getting everything thats being done in maya into unreal which is important even though it may not seem like it
